Let’s face it... as young adults, we are constantly faced with important and often complicated financial decisions. Many of us aren’t even old enough to (legally) buy a drink, yet we’re expected to know how to save, spend, and budget our money wisely. From our first day at our first job or the first time we get allowance, money is a factor in all of our lives. We make financial decisions that could impact us for years to come. Paying one bill late, for example, could affect our ability to get the car of our dreams 10 years later.
High schools and colleges teach students about math, writing, and history. However, these institutions rarely prepare us for the money management and financial decision-making issues we will encounter in the real world (and even while still in school). Student Savvy is about the many ways that money and our lives interact.
Before I was even old enough to sign a binding contract, I was talking to venture capitalists about a million-dollar investment in my company. While many young adults won’t have to deal with this issue, we all have our own unique situations that are impacted by money. Whether you are trying to throw a party but are short on cash or want to begin planning for your retirement by age 30, we’ve got you covered. Looking to invest in the stock market for the first time? Need to find some more money for college tuition? We’re there for you. Student Savvy was created to give young adults a solid understanding of how to earn, save, and spend money.
Our goal is simple: to provide a fun, fresh, and direct approach to dealing with the money side of life. We’re bringing students, educators, professionals, and advisors together to share insights, advice, and ideas. Let’s say you’re saving up for a vacation to Europe. Our travel experts will help you plan where to go and our budgeting specialists will give you ideas on how to afford it, while other students who have been there tell you about their experiences.
Student Savvy is run by a team of young adults like you and I. We know you’d rather listen to your peers instead of being spoken down to. We know you’re smart and your time is valuable. We’re going to build Student Savvy together.
We will tell you everything like it is; we won’t give you BS. I ask that you do the same. Tell us if you want a new feature added; tell us if you can’t stand a certain article. With your help, Student Savvy will be the resource young adults turn to for information about money -- how it shapes our lives, influences our decisions, and contributes to our success.
