Kris Karkoski

Kris Karkoski Kris writes "The Rundown" column on Student Savvy.

Where are you originally from and where do you live now?
I currently reside in my hometown of Corry, PA in northwest Pennsylvania.

Have a personal quote?
"We don’t negotiate with terrorists; we put them out of business." - Scott McClellan

Pick one word to describe yourself and tell why it describes you so well.
Leader -- For as long as I remember I have been a natural leader. I have taken it upon myself to help others in any situation I can. The word incorporates so many other qualities underneath it that I find it a fitting word to describe myself.

What do you like most about Student Savvy? (be honest)
I think the idea of helping students not only learn about finances, but all aspects of the real world is a great idea. Becoming involved in the situations that affect our lives and becoming enlightened individuals will make the future a better place to live in.

What is the best advice you've ever received?
The best advice I have ever received is to never give up you ability to think for yourself. Don’t let anyone tell you how something is. Do your own research and form your own opinion. Your mind is the greatest gift you have and you should never relinquish control over it.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
In 10 years I see myself as a practicing physician assistant and living with my beautiful wife and family.

What is your biggest pet peeve?
I just can’t stand when people chew with their mouth open. Ask any of my close family and friends and they will tell you just how much this gets on my NERVES!!!

What is your greatest athletic achievement?
My greatest athletic achievement was coming back from two surgeries to participate in soccer and tennis during my senior year. Despite the major setback of missing two years of sports in high school, I think recovering and being able to come back was the greatest accomplishment I could achieve.

If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you choose?
If I could go anywhere in the world I would go to Australia. The country seems so exotic yet you could find yourself at home with native English speakers. I think it is the best of both worlds to be able to visit a foreign country yet feel like you never left home.

If you could go back in time and witness one event in history, what would you go back and see?
If I could see one event it would have to be the signing of the constitution. Being able to see what made the rest of our nation’s history and events possible would just be an amazing thing.

How do you define success?
I think success is a completely personal goal that we set for ourselves. Everyone has a different set of goals they idealize to see themselves and others as successful. To some you must make over one million dollars a year. To others success involves raising a family. I think that if you are happy doing whatever it is that you do, then you have found success.

What is your favorite sport and favorite team?
Hockey is my favorite sport by far. Despite their losing seasons the past few years, I still root for the Pittsburgh Penguins and hope that this season will be a turnaround year for them.
