Jason Fox

Jason Fox Jason writes the "Were They Worth It?" column on Student Savvy.

Bio:
Jason Fox is a senior at Syracuse University. Jason was the sport editor for his nationally-acclaimed high school paper -- Eastside. He prides himself on captaining a winning intramural sports team for each season: softball, football, soccer and basketball. He’s a life long New York sports fan (Mets, Giants, Rangers, Knicks), which was often difficult growing up in a suburb of Philadelphia.

From Jason: I've hit a half court shot with my team down by 2 at the buzzer, I hold the longest reception for a touchdown on 78 different playground football fields, I once talked my little brother into selling me Boardwalk and Park Place for 7 Monopoly Dollars and a "Get Out of Jail Free" card, I scored the game-tying goal against the state champs with under 5 seconds left, I like the volume on the TV to be on an even number at all times (usually 22), I always come in first in Mario Kart (with DK of course), I've fractured my skull, broke an arm and a finger, and had surgery on my knee playing baseball. I ran down an up-escalator once at the mall and people cheered.

Where are you originally from and where do you live now?
I’m originally from Cherry Hill, NJ. I currently reside in Syracuse, NY, where I am attending my senior year at SU.

Have a personal quote?
"I know where I am, I just don't know where I'm going." - yours truly, Jason Fox.

Pick one word to describe yourself and tell why it describes you so well.
Competitive. My drive to do everything I can (within the rules of the game) to win in everything I do is my strongest quality. From getting into a serious fight with my girlfriend for hiding Monopoly money under her leg, to blasting an opposite field, game-winning double in the championship game of my intramural softball league, competing is my passion.

What do you like most about Student Savvy? (be honest)
The boss... he’s so cute. OK but honestly you said right? The accessibility that Student Savvy creates for students across the globe to actually learn about money! We all make money, some more than others, but most of us don’t know how to use it. Student Savvy shows us how.

What is the best advice you've ever received?
"If a bee comes around you, don’t swat it. Just stand still. It will go away eventually." - Sue Fox (my mom).

What is your biggest pet peeve?
People that can't use "your" and "you're" right.

What is your greatest athletic achievement?
Successfully catching an egg thrown from over 60 feet in an egg toss. The crowd was stunned. I have soft hands.

What is your greatest fear?
A big dog chasing after me down an empty street.

You have 2 hours to kill. What are you going to do?
Organize a pickup football game.

If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you choose?
Honolulu, Hawaii.

Name one person you'd most like to meet and why.
Tom Brady because he just always seems to find a way to win.

Which celebrity or public figure do you most resemble?
I’ve been told I look like a mix between the lead singer from Dashboard Confessional and Freddie Prinze Jr.

Did you ever do something as a child that you look back on now and say, 'Wow, I'm lucky to even be alive after that!'?
Well I didn’t do anything to have this happen to me, but I was at a Bar Mitzvah, and a kid thought it would be funny to put a Bobby Pin in the back of my seat and have me sit down after a standing prayer and feel a pinch in my back. Well I felt a pinch alright... all the way through my suit jacket, through my undershirt, and through my back! The Bobby Pin went into my back and was a few centimeters away from piercing my lung. I still have the x-rays... they’re great.

What's the best product you use that most people don't know about?
Sexy, Slick Hair Gel. Looks so tacky and fake if you look at the bottle it comes in, but it’s actually cheap and really works! Seriously, I’m touching my hair right now... it’s immaculate.

If you could go back in time and witness one event in history, what would you go back and see?
I’d be at Shea Stadium... Game 6 of the 1986 World Series... Front Row, First Base Line. I think we all know why...

How do you define success?
Being internally happy and financially secure... whatever makes those two things work are up to each individual person.

What is your favorite sport and favorite team?
Baseball and the New York Mets -- Ya Gotta Believe right?

What is your favorite movie ever and why?
"The Sandlot" because I am the 2006 version of Benny the Jet Rodriguez.

What is your best investment to date? (doesn't have to be finance-related)
The Miguel Cabrera rookie card I bought before his rookie season. It’s going to be worth a lot of money someday.
